As you all know by now, it's really difficult to get out of the township since Ivan. Ivan hit us hard. Roads and bridges were ruined. Many Forks residents' homes were flooded with water and mud. It will be a long, slow healing for them. We learned yesterday that parts of Northampton County were declared "disaster areas" and that help is available. A call to the township offices will be more accurate and informative. Good luck to all of you.
On Friday the 17th, Forks Townships’ 250th Ox and Pig Roast opened the planned festivities. The meal was delicious and well attended. It was a perfect opportunity for many Forks Township residents and friends from neighboring communities to socialize and have dinner. A Forks Township Celebration cake, created from cupcakes, was the dessert. There was no need to cut the cake and the kids loved it. Because of Ivan, all activities for Saturday were cancelled. A State of Emergency was declared for Forks. Township officials met on Sunday morning and decided to hold Sunday’s activities. Donation Containers (for flood victims) were on hand. Quite a few people were there. There were mixed feelings as some township residents felt Sunday’s activities should have been cancelled. The fireworks were held on Sunday evening at 8:30.
The Board of Supervisors meeting on 9/16/04 was again visited by police officers, including both of our township detectives, 3 officers in street clothes, and one in uniform. This is unusual to say the least. There must be some reason that they were there? Five of the six do not live in the township so it couldn't be that they are interested in developers' projects. Possibly because they work here, they want to hear the plight of the residents who contribute in the Comments session. See the weblog for more!
The Planning Commission met on 9/9/04. Most agenda items were tabled pending technical revisions with the township engineer. However, two projects were discussed for "conditional use opinions." Both projects are really ONE project, another age restricted community of manufactured homes on Kesslerville Road. It will adjoin the existing one sharing a common clubhouse and swimming pool. There will be a major east west road through the middle of this, an extension of Braden Blvd. Next stop, Board of Supervisors.
On 9/2/04 there was an SRO crowd at the Board of Supervisors meeting. It started early with a workshop/discussion of the new municipal building office layout. Check out the notes on our forksaction weblog. Lots went on. The paper (Express Times) cleaned up its reporting... made it sound ordinary. It was NOT! There were 6 uniformed police there! The "comments" session was rich with audience participation. Questions WERE asked! Answers next meeting?
