The March 1st Board of Supervisors meeting was short compared to some of the marathon sessions of late. Richard
Schnaedter, Forks brand new Township manager was introduced and Solicitor Kline was authorized to review the Stockertown fire
coverage proposal and add the proper legal terminology. If approved, Forks' Fire Department will continue to cover Stockertown's
fire protection needs until 2010. Courtney Lomax (Express Times) reported on the proposed FD agreement and on the new
Township Manager appointment. Madeleine Mathias (Morning Call) covered both as well - new Township Manager and on
3/6/07, the FD proposal for Stockertown coverage.
Other meeting highlights include:
- In the proposed Fire Department agreement with Stockertown, Forks will receive approximately $50,000 worth of
Stockertown's usable equipment. A Stockertown fire truck will be housed in Stocketown's fire station which will become a
Forks substation. The Borough of Stockertown is only .89 of a square mile.
- Supervisor Ackerman said that he wanted a shorter contract (with Stockertown) "to feel better about it."
- Ackerman said that the DPW put barriers near where flooding normally occurs so that roads could be closed quickly if the
rains Thursday night caused flooding. (They did and the barriers were used.)
- The Township Manager's starting pay is $70,000. He will receive full benefits (full medical insurance, a cell phone, 3
weeks vacation, and life insurance).
- Forks will be getting a new $73,650 John Deere backhoe from Plasterer Equipment through a PA procurement program.
The old one will be sold to the highest bidder.
- The vote was 5:0 to renew the annual contract with Easton Suburban Water Authority to shut off water for residents who do
not pay their sewer bills. There is a $50 fee for each shutoff.
- There was an Executive Session to discuss the non-uniformed employees' contract negotiations. After the session the
board voted unanimously to consult with a labor attorney.

On March 15th the Board of Supervisors voted to sign a contract with Stockertown to
continue fire and vehicle rescue services until Jan 1, 2010. They also voted to allow the Forks EMS to
provide Basic Life (BLS) Support to Forks residents. Advanced Life Support (ALS) will continue to be
provided by Palmer's Suburban EMS. Suburban will operate Forks' coverage from a site in Tatamy.
Please read Courtney Lomax (Express Times) and Madeleine Mathias (Morning Call) for more on the
EMS discussions.
In other actions:
- The Board voted 5:0 to sign with R.B. Associates as a co-licensee in an application to allow
stormwater pipes to be installed under the Norfolk Southern rail line. R.B. Associates is
developing industrial land north of Uhler Road and on the west side of Sullivan Trail.
- The fee schedules for all Township rentals, permits, etc. is being revised and will be voted on
at the Boards's next meeting.
- Supervisor Ackerman will get a cost estimate of repairing and renovating a room in the former
recycling building for use as a sign room.
- The spring edition of the Forks Quarterly will be ready for distribution by month's end.
- The Township received a $83,000 refund of 2006 health care premiums. Finance Manager
Jim Farley attributed the refund to effective management of the plan.
- Two custom made meeting room tables will be ordered from Eisenhardt Mills, a Forks
company. The tables are 6' long, echo the shape of the dais, and will cost $6,000. Money is
available in the Supervisors' discretionary fund, according to Farley, for this and other items
needed to complete the meeting room appointments. Read Madeleine Mathias (Morning Call)
for more. This vote was 4:1 with Nicholas casting the nay vote.
